iBSL Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness

This qualification introduces the learner to a basic-level knowledge and understanding about deaf awareness, and what it means to be deaf and what can be done to improve access for d/Deaf people in society.

 

These topics will be covered - Different types of d/Deaf people, Common Causes of Deafness, Statistics, Deaf Identity, Barriers for Deaf People.

 

Target group

The Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness is suitable for those who:

  • wish to acquire a basic understanding and awareness of deafness and deaf people;
  • need to acquire the knowledge as part of a programme of study or professional development;
  • are studying for personal development with a view to future employment.

No previous experience of BSL is required for entry into a programme leading to the Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness.

 

Length of course

This course can be taught in one full day with the assessment at the end of the training or over two half days.  Contact us for further details.
